Makerspace

Makerspace
About

The Boxer Makerspace was created to provide a dedicated space for Pacific University students, faculty, staff and alumni to generate new ideas, prototypes and physical products using the equipment of the Berglund Center.

The Boxer Makerspace is managed by Scott Albritton, Makerspace coordinator, and a small dedicated group of student technicians who assist and oversee the safe use of the space and its equipment.

Location and Hours

The Boxer Makerspace is located on the Tran Library 2nd Floor, room 208, and it is open to the Pacific University community during the following days and times:

Monday – Thursday: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  |  Friday: 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  |  Saturday: Noon – 5:00 p.m.

How to Use the Makerspace

You may stop by anytime the space is open to use the common areas to work on your personal projects.

You may use small tools (i.e. hammers, screw drivers, etc.) without the need to reserve them. All tools must remain within the space (i.e. cannot be checked out).

If you have a project that requires the use of specialized equipment: 3D printers (resin and filament based), Letterpress, CNC machine, 3D scanner, you have two options:

  • Provide the electronic file to the student tech to upload the file, set up the job and operate the equipment, or
  • Become a certified user through our Safety and Basic Use courses (contact the Makerspace coordinator for details), and reserve the equipment once certified to use.
Costs

There is no cost to use or work in the Boxer Makerspace using our tools, or any tools you bring with you.

We only charge for MATERIALS and other consumables used with equipment such as 3D printers, CNC Mill, laser cutter, letterpress, etc.

The costs are the true cost of the materials and shipping plus 12% to defray maintenance cost for the equipment used. You do not pay for the student technicians’ time or any additional hidden cost.
