24-Hour Study Center (Forest Grove only)

The 24-Hour Study Center is for the use of only current Pacific University patrons.

  • Please report malfunctioning equipment to the Circulation Department.


Certified service animals are permitted in the Library.


Patrons are expected to behave in a respectful and courteous manner. Loud noises and chatty groups are discouraged.

Food and Beverages

  • Snacks and beverages are allowed in the Library.
  • Alcohol is strictly prohibited. The Library complies with Pacific University's alcohol policy.
  • Please be considerate of others. Noisy, greasy or aromatic food (pizza, nachos, potato chips, etc.) is prohibited as it can distract others and damage Library resources.
  • Food cannot be delivered to the Library.


Bicycles are to be locked to a bicycle rack, not handrails/academic buildings. See Pacific University's bicycle policy.

Group Student Rooms/Collaborative Learning Centers

  • The study rooms are for the use of current Pacific University faculty, staff and students only.
  • Reservation limit of four hours per day.
  • If you do not arrive within 10 minutes of your reservation time, the reservation is forfeit and others may use the room.
  • Any non-reserved time is first-come, first-served.
  • Larger rooms are for use by 2 or more people. Single individuals using a group study room may be asked to yield the room to a group. (Please see Library Staff for assistance).
  • Reservations may be made one month to one hour ahead of time.
  • Faculty and staff may book study rooms only for occasional ad hoc meetings related to work or academic activities of the Pacific University community.
  • Food: Snacks and beverages with lids are permitted. Please avoid noisy, greasy, or aromatic food, as these can be distracting and also cause damage to library furniture and materials. Alcohol is strictly prohibited, and food cannot be delivered to the library.
  • Please clean up after yourself!

Library Classroom (Forest Grove only)

  • The Library Classroom is available for Pacific University members when not reserved for a Library instruction. Faculty: to schedule an instructional session with a librarian for your class, please email Lynda Irons via email at lrirons@pacificu.edu.
  • The Library Classroom schedule will be posted daily outside each entrance to the Classroom.
  • To reserve the Library Classroom for a Library resources-related instruction session or for any other purpose, please email schedule@pacificu.edu.
  • Please include: Date, Time, Instructor's name, Name of event.

Lockers (Forest Grove only)

  • Library books stored in the lockers must be checked out.
  • Non-circulating Library material cannot be kept in lockers.
  • Perishable foods are not allowed.
  • The Library reserves the right to check the lockers at anytime to insure compliance with established procedures for the use of the lockers. Contents found to be in non-compliance, will be removed and delivered to the Pacific Information Center (PIC).
  • Lockers will be emptied at the end of each workday (closing varies), and contents given to the PIC. The lock and key will be put back in circulation.
  • The Library assumes no responsibility for any lost or stolen items.
  • A $10 fine will be levied against the responsible patron if the lock or key are lost or disabled.

Lost and Found

Items left behind in the Library will be collected in a Lost and Found box at the Circulation Desk. Each Friday, these items are taken to the Pacific Information Center (PIC) in the University Center and can be retrieved there.

Exhibits Policy

The primary purpose of exhibits in the Pacific University Libraries is to promote interest in and use of Pacific’s Libraries, Archives, Museum and Art collections. Exhibits may also promote diverse scholarly and cultural perspectives and improve access to collections of resources that connect to community and global issues.
This policy applies to the exhibit spaces in the Forest Grove Campus Library as well as to the display of materials in the Hillsboro Campus Library. Spaces available for exhibits in the Forest Grove Library include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Gallery
  • Lobby
  • Media Commons

Requests to display materials in other areas will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Scope of Exhibits

The Archives and Special Collections Librarian plans, coordinates, and oversees a rotating roster of exhibitions in the Pacific University Libraries that showcase library holdings, that contribute to the cultural and intellectual life of the university, or that otherwise connect to the university’s mission or curriculum, student or faculty scholarship, campus organizations and events, and/or current events.

Proposed exhibits should display unique and/or creative content, and should convey a specific point-of-view, position, or argument. Exhibits are intended to engender thought and discussion; purely decorative exhibits should not be proposed.

Proposing an Exhibit

To propose an exhibit, please use the exhibit proposal form (docx | pdf). Proposals will be reviewed as they are received. Advance notice of at least one month is required; some spaces are booked one year in advance.

Student-led exhibit proposals are encouraged, but students must be prepared to commit the time necessary to prepare, install, and de-install the exhibit. It is estimated that small exhibits require approximately 15-20 hours of work.

Exhibit Content Guidelines

  • Exhibits are selected based on:
    • Educational content
    • Connection to the university’s mission or curriculum
    • Timeliness to current and campus events
    • Relation of materials to the campus and wider community
    • Scheduling constraints. Proposed exhibitions must fit into the exhibit planning calendar.
    • Reinforcement of the university and/or Libraries’ mission or strategic goals
    • Quality and aesthetic value
    • Thematic and narrative integrity
  • Exhibits that showcase holdings from Pacific University’s Libraries, Archives, Art and Museum collections will be given preference when scheduling exhibits.
  • All exhibits are temporary.
  • The Archives and Special Collections Librarian, in consultation with the Dean of University Libraries, will make the final determination about all exhibits.
  • Exhibits may not compromise our users access to collections or services or otherwise disrupt or harm the facility, collections, or visitors.
  • The Libraries commit to presenting diverse points of view and to the principles of academic freedom.

Exhibit Materials

In order to be included in an exhibit, the exhibit curator must:

  • Ensure that all appropriate permissions have been received to display the materials.
  • Provide accurate and appropriate descriptive annotations and acknowledgements for materials and provide accurate citations for all content used in creating exhibit descriptions.
  • Ensure that exhibit materials will not damage or otherwise endanger the condition of display cases/walls or other library fixtures.
  • Receive explicit permission from the Archives and Special Collections Librarian to include any fragile, rare, unique, or otherwise extremely vulnerable materials.

Exhibit Requirements

Installation/De-installation: A specific date and time must be pre-arranged with the Archives and Special Collections Librarian for all approved exhibits. Changes to this time must be agreed to in writing. The Archives and Special Collections Librarian or an approved substitute must be able to be present for any exhibit installation/de-installation. Failure to meet an agreed-upon installation schedule may result in forfeiture of the time and space allocated for the exhibit.

Costs: The exhibit curator, if outside of the Libraries, will cover any special cost incurred in mounting the exhibit, including the repair of any damage to the building or library property caused in installation or removal of the exhibit.

Security and Insurance: Materials in an exhibit are afforded the same security protection as that of any materials in the given exhibit area/space. This means that third parties including, but not limited to, the general public and students may have unsupervised and unregulated access to the exhibit area and the materials. Additional security cannot be provided by the university, and the university is not responsible for the safekeeping of the exhibit materials and shall have no liability to the owner of the exhibit materials or any third party in the event of any damage or loss (including theft) to the exhibit materials. The owner of the exhibit materials bears all risk of all loss or damage to the exhibit materials regardless of cause. The university does not provide any insurance for materials on display or assume any responsibility for the loss, theft of, or damage to any materials on exhibit. The provision of insurance for the exhibit materials is the responsibility of the exhibit curator and/or owner of the materials.

Physical Arrangements: Reasonable efforts should be made to make all exhibits accessible to everyone, with special provisions, when possible, to accommodate people with disabilities. An exhibit must not constitute a physical hazard or impede research or regular library use.

Thank you for your interest in supporting the Libraries. As described below, we no longer accept donated physical books, journals, or media. If you would like to support the Libraries or another area of the university, consider making a financial gift.

The Pacific University Libraries does not accept donations of physical materials (books, serials, media) unless they are intended for its archival/special collections**. The value of donated materials generally does not outweigh the resources required to appropriately evaluate, accession, or otherwise dispose of donated materials, and accepting donations of physical materials does not represent sound stewardship of the Libraries’ or University’s resources. Prospective donors are encouraged to explore options for their donations (e.g. public libraries, non-profits, etc). If you would like recommendations, please contact the Dean of University Libraries.

Exceptions to this policy may be made at the discretion of the Dean of University Libraries when the proposed donation of physical materials is associated with financial support for the Libraries or University or when acceptance of the donation will contribute to the development of a strategic relationship for the Libraries or University. In the case of such exceptions, donated materials are expected to meet the guidelines and criteria established by the Libraries for all newly acquired content. When a donation of physical materials is accepted, the Libraries will reserve the right to dispose of any materials that it considers not to meet the Libraries’ collection needs and policy guidelines. Unaccepted materials will not be offered back to the donor.

**Donations of physical materials to the Archives & Special Collections are evaluated by the Archives & Special Collections Librarian who will provide a recommendation regarding acceptance to the Dean of University Libraries.

Lactation Room Policy

Tran Library Lactation Room

Pacific University supports breastfeeding and welcomes nursing mothers to our campuses. Women are welcome to breastfeed anywhere on campus as they are comfortable. They also are invited to use designated private space set aside for anyone who is feeding a baby or expressing breastmilk. A list of all designated spaces is available on the university website.

Who Can Use the Lactation Room?

Members of the Pacific University community (students, faculty, staff, alumni) and visitors are welcome to use the Lactation room for breastfeeding, pumping, or bottlefeeding.

How Do I Use the Lactation Room?

The Lactation Room is available on a first-come, first-serve basis; it is not reservable. To use the room, please stop at the front desk of the Tran Library and check out a room key (there are two available). If needed, a locker/cabinet key may also be checked out for storing pumping equipment.

Room keys may be checked out for 1 to 4 hours; locker keys may be checked out for up to 5 days.

Lactation Room Use Expectations

Cleaning & Sanitizing

You are responsible for bringing your own equipment and cleaning up after each use. This is not only out of respect for the next user, but to prevent contamination and illness transmission. You should clean milk spills after each use and dispose of trash properly. Cleaning wipes, sanitizing spray, and paper towels are provided in the room. Only designated sanitizing spray should be used to sanitize personal equipment.

Breast Milk Storage

A small refrigerator is provided in the room for temporary storage, but users are advised that this is a shared space. Complimentary ice packs are available in the freezer of the unit for use with your own storage/transport containers; if you take the last ice pack, please inform front desk staff so that they can be replenished.


Please respect the privacy of all Lactation Room users; do not try to enter the room or knock if the occupancy indicator shows that the room is occupied. In the case of an emergency or an urgent need to access the room, please notify front desk staff.
