YuJa Panorama
YuJa Panorama is a digital accessibility platform that integrates directly with Moodle. Panorama helps make course materials more accessible by automatically generating alternative versions of documents for students. It also helps faculty identify and correct accessibility issues in their course materials.
What does Panorama do for students?
YuJa Panorama automatically generates alternative versions of many documents and resources in Moodle. These include audio versions, accessible text formats, and versions that allow students to adjust the appearance of text, including spacing and contrast.
These alternative formats allow students to engage with course materials in ways that best meet their individual needs and preferences. For example, students can listen to a document rather than read it, adjust text to make it easier to read, or download a version designed to work with assistive technology.
Panorama supports most common document formats, including Word documents, PDFs, and PowerPoint presentations. It also includes tools for converting mathematical equations, chemical formulas, and other scientific notation into more accessible formats.
The original documents remain available, and students can choose which alternative format works best for them.
Faculty can control which alternative formats are available in their courses, depending on Pacific’s configuration of these settings.
What does Panorama do for faculty?
Panorama automatically checks supported documents and other content in Moodle for accessibility issues. These might include missing alternative text for images, improperly structured headings, insufficient color contrast, or PDFs that are not accessible to screen readers.
Panorama displays an accessibility indicator next to supported course materials. Faculty can select the indicator to see what accessibility issues have been identified and receive guidance on how to address them.
For many common document types, Panorama provides tools that allow faculty to correct accessibility issues directly within Moodle. For other issues, Panorama provides instructions for making corrections in the original document.
Faculty can also access a course-level accessibility report that provides an overview of accessibility issues across their Moodle course. This report can help identify which materials need attention and prioritize improvements.
How to Get Started with Panorama
Panorama is automatically enabled in Moodle courses, so no special setup is required to begin using its basic features.
Look for the accessibility indicators next to course materials. Select an indicator to review accessibility issues and explore options for correcting them. You can also access the Panorama course accessibility report for an overview of your course.
Faculty do not need to address every accessibility issue at once. We recommend starting with materials that students use most frequently, prioritizing significant accessibility issues, and incorporating accessibility improvements into the process of creating or updating course materials.
